Two Things You Should Do Before Hiring A Real Estate Agent

If you are at the point where you want to sell your home, you will need to make sure that you are getting it ready to be shown well before you call in a real estate agent. This way, once you have signed the listing agreement with the agent, he or she will be able to get the house shown as soon as possible. Here are some of the things you might want to do:

Pack Up The Clutter

You are going to be moving at some point in the future anyways, right? Might as well get a jump on it and start packing up the things that you do not need to make use of on a daily basis. This way, you can remove the clutter that is filling your shelves, table and dresser tops, and your closets. You want potential buyers to be able to see how much room your house really has. If you have the closets packed full from the floor to ceiling with stuff you no longer use, it might appear as though the closets do not have much space and something like that could cause someone to decide that they don't want the house. Once you have all of the clutter packed up, you will want to make sure that you are taking all of it to a nearby storage unit, a friend's basement, or at your new home if you have already purchased it.

Give Everything A Fresh Coat Of Paint

Take a look at the wooden banisters, walls, doors, window frames, and baseboards. Do they appear dingy or simply not longer as vibrant as they used to be? It might benefit you to give everything a fresh coat of paint. When you re done with the interior of the home, you can then work on painting everything on the outside. This will show the potential buyers that the house can look great and that it has been well maintained by you over the years. If you simply do not have the time or experience to paint everything on your own, you might want to consider hiring a handyman or a painting crew to come in to do it for you. The amount of money you will spend on this will be more than worth it if you are able to sell your house quicker and for more money.

Once those things are done, you will be ready to contact the real estate agent, like Steve Cohn - Keller Williams Realty - Petaluma.
